“Laurel” or “Yanny”? What do you hear?

I know it’s not so much about dog , BUT..

You couldn’t get on social media Tuesday without seeing Team Yanny and Team Laurel going at it. First posted on Reddit, the polarizing audio clip spread to Twitter. Soon everyone from regular Joes to celebs like Ellen DeGeneres and JJ Watt were talking about it (Ellen thought it was Laurel, but Watt was Team Yanny).

Ugly Poll

The editorial team is torn… once and for all, is it:

I believe this is the original sound track

Someone has analyzed the clip with software..

This YouTube video below plays with pitches to try to understand how people are hearing different things.

All three times I hear only laurel. BUT if you put a high pass filter on and crank it up higher than the one you have, you can make out a breathy “yanny”. But your HPF is way too low to isolate that for my ears.

In the regular video I only hear Yanny but after seeing this video I can kind of make out a very faint low “laurel”. It’s still predominantly Yanny for me, though, and I was really surprised that the majority of people seemed to hear Laurel.

Other explanations coming along..
