Known as being among the top 5 rarest breeds on the planet, the Stabyhoun originated in the Frisian Forest, near Friesland. In the past, the Stabyhoun was used extensively in hunting small game, such as hare and foxes, as well as bird. However, today it is most commonly used as a house pet, due to its rarity. The coat of the Stabyhoun is slightly shaggy, usually coming in a black and white color pattern, although there are solid black variations.
