Originating in the 16th century in Belgium, the Schipperke is a small-sized breed that is believed to be of the Spitz type, although some argue that it is more closely related to the miniature sheepdog. The Schipperke’s small stature and keen instincts make it well-suited for hunting rats and other small rodents. Its soft coat of silky hair is lengthier around its neck and tapers slowly towards the rear. The coat of the Schipperke comes in black, chocolate, and apricot, as well as mixed patterns like black and tan.
