The Gordon Setter is known for being the largest of any of the Setter breeds, often reaching over 26” at the shoulders. The Gordon was developed in the United Kingdom as a bird dog for grouse, pheasant, and partridge hunting. It has a shimmery dark-black coat with brown markings on its face and paws, from which the nickname “black and tan” is derived. The Gordon’s heavy coat makes it well-suited for field work in inclement weather.
